In the afternoon we went to visit the fortress that dominates the city, an exceptional incas archaelogical site, built in XV century. Cuzco was the capital city of the Inca empire. We were astonished by the size of the rock blocks that make the buildings: they are gigantic, literally.

Please note the size of the rock in the wall just behind us, and consider that it is not the biggest we have seen….

Other huge blocks. The visit may require several hours, and the place is so fascinating that one might want to stay here forever. Obviously this was not our case, also because we were getting hungry and it was almost time to go back down to the city.

On these slides the stones were rolled that then made up the buildings. Now they are an amusing attraction….Once we went back down to Cuzco we did some shopping for next days: we bought in particular the pills to purify water. They would be necessary during the Inca Trail to be able to drink the water of rivers. We also bought a cocoa bar believing that it could be delicious, but it revealed to be disgusting: it was rough cocoa powder that tasted like soil.

Next morning, the umpteenth early wake up was waiting for us…
